PIDGEONSTITCH Designs beautiful objects as quality of workmanship and durability

1.How did you get into your love of Handmade making?
I used to make my dolls clothes when I was very young, this turned into making my own later on and now - well I have enough clothes and don't play with dolls any longer so I'm making bags and other stuff instead!

2.What inspired you and where do you get your ideas from?
I just look at and feel fabrics and match them together and think 'what would this look best as'! This is my favourite part of the design process.

3.Do you work to trends /seasonal
I do think a bit about seasons. Darker and warmer colours in winter, brighter and fresher colours in spring. It can be tricky though as Folksy stuff can be listed for 6 months (if you aren't lucky enough to sell it!). I've recently done Valentines and Mother's Day items (picture of mothers day t-shirt?)

4.How would you describe your style?
Not sure... I'd call it 'neat and colourful' I suppose! I can't make the sort of 'thrown together stylishly' look. I love it, but I can't do it myself!!

5.Whats your most favourite item in your shop?
My favourite is the 'Duck Egg Blue Overnight Bag'. The red one that I liked even more has just been sold! (picture of duck egg blue o'night bag)

6.What goals have you set for the future for PIDGEONSTITCH ?
I simply want to continue to get better known. I like the idea of making more matching items - overnight bags, shoulder bags, washbags etc. I just love things which match each other - like sets of luggage or underwear!!

7.What tips would you give somebody thinking of setting up a folksy shop?
Try selling at a stall before you launch your Folksy shop. It gives you an idea of what goes down well, what sells, whether your prices are right and do people think your stuff is well enough made?

1.How did you get into your beautiful Handmade cushions ect?
I work as an artist/designer after doing a degree in Fashion a few years ago. I missed making and using cloth and so decided to start sketching with stitches. I am obsessed with drawing. I love the idea of people having little works of individual art on their sofas in the form of cushions.

2.What inspired you and where do you get your ideas from?
I am inspired by the mundane, insane, gossip, beauty, love, life and all the other stuff that surrounds us.

3.Do you work to trends /seasonal
In my non folksy work I am guided loosely by trends, but the work I put in my folksy shop is whatever I am thinking or inspired about at that moment.

4.How would you describe your style?
ecclectic

5.Whats your most favourite item in your shop
My favourite piece is usually the piece I am working on. At the moment I like the dancing queen and miner bird talking vietnamese cushions.

6. What goals have you set for the future for patchworkbutterfly?
My goals are to make things that I hope that individuals will delight in, treasure and desire. Every piece I make is handmade which makes every piece different with it’s own soul. I make things that I hope will raise your spirits every time you see that object, and that touch people in some way. I like to make things that become part of people’s everyday lives that in some way still retain those feelings of wonder, when you first saw, bought or were given them, however long you have had that object. What is the point in making beautiful things if they don’t thrill your fingers, when you touch them.

7.What tips would you give somebody thinking of setting up a folksy shop?
Always make things from the heart, enjoy the creative journey and always find time to go and be inspired by the rest of the world.

~*~ Chiyo ~*~ Talks about her growing Folksy Shop

*Chiyo most favourite item in her shop is this beautiful bright & bold necklace and i think i must agree with her this necklace is stunning!

1.How did you get into jewellry making?
My grandma used to make beaded trees that i was fascinated with (but never been able to do ) and when she stopped making them she gave me her big box of wire and beads all sorted into colours and sparkling, i couldn't wait to get stuck in and made my first bracelet.

2.What inspired you and where do you get your ideas from?
My inspiration can come from anywhere, i can be lying in bed and all of a sudden get and idea for an item of jewellery and then find it hard to get to sleep the rest of the night :) i can be browsing through old carboot sales and find some lovely old pieces of jewellery that i can break down and uprecycle into something fab,or walking and looking at all the beautiful flowers around and thinking how i can replicate this in jewellery. theres lots of inspiration around us.

3.Do you work to trends /seasonal
I don't tend to work to trends, i just make what i like when it comes to me.
